The practice was formed in 2000 by Richard Mitzman (Richard Mitzman Architects) after having retrained as an architect following distinguished careers in both Dentistry and as a sculptor. In the following ten years Richard grew the practice both as a sole practitioner, and in partnership.
Richard lectured extensively around the UK and abroad on his design philosophy. He had a passion for design and art, spending 6 years in Italy working as a sculptor. He invented various products throughout his time in practice, as well as being a visiting tutor at the Royal College of Arts in product engineering.
In 2010 Richard invited Socrates to join him to form Mitzman Architects LLP. The partnership was very successful with them growing the team and winning a number of major commissions and international competitions culminating in an RIBA award in 2019.
Richard Mitzman sadly passed away in July 2020, after a battle with cancer, having planned to retire in October 2020.
Following Richard’s death Socrates Miltiadou invited former university friend Rupert Cook, previously a director of ArchitecturePLB, to join him in leading the practice forward. Socrates and Rupert renamed the practice keeping Richards name, as a tribute to the foundation and reputation that the practice has established.
