Miltiadou Cook Mitzman Architects were invited to collaborate as part of a team on the latest London School of Economics competition, during the summer 2025. Our team was shortlisted and named runner-up in the international design competition to reimagine its landmark building at 61 Aldwych.
The design was developed in collaboration with STUDIOS Architecture and Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt. Our proposals sought define a sense of place within the building, and to connect with the tight urban grain of the LSE Quarter. The wider team included Buro Happold, Atelier Ten and Eckersley O'Callaghan.
MCM brought particular knowledge of the LSE Quarter, having worked on the public Realm Strategy in 2022, the next phase for the pedestrianisation of Portugal Street is aiming to complete to coincide with the refurbishment of 61 Aldwych.
Congratulations to Feix&Merlin Architects and Alison Brooks Architects on their winning scheme, and to the London School of Economics for promoting thoughtful, sustainable design.
