Kingston College Hair and Beauty facilities

Miltiadou Cook Mitzman Architects were appointed by Inside Limited, to support the delivery of the refurbishment of Kingston College’s Hair and Beauty facilities for South Thames College Group. The project comprises approximately 1,000m² of commercial and training spaces across three floors, including a public-facing salon, mezzanine meeting rooms, and specialist teaching areas within the multi-storey tower. Delivered under a Design & Build contract as part of an accelerated 10-week summer programme, the project required the rapid development of fully coordinated construction information at RIBA Stages 2–6.

Close collaboration with the contractor enabled pragmatic decision-making to maintain momentum and manage risk within the constrained programme. The refurbishment also addressed significant compliance challenges, bringing the existing building up to modern fire-safety and environmental standards, including the introduction of mechanical ventilation and active cooling.

The brief called for durable, natural, and fully functional learning and salon environments. This was achieved through careful consideration of finishes, fittings, furniture and service integration to create coherent, robust spaces suited to intensive daily use. Completed in September 2025, the upgraded facilities support more advanced learning and form part of a wider five-year programme of estate improvements across the South Thames College Group.
