The masterplan and detailed feasibility projects are in collaboration with Atkins, with Rupert having led the masterplan for the University at his previous practice.
Rupert’s detailed knowledge of the existing masterplan has brought significant benefits to the client in terms of continuity, with familiarity with the City of Portsmouth, knowledge of the university quarters, and working relationships with key senior team members at the University.
The updated masterplan has regenerative design as a key principle, with a much greater focus on existing buildings, re-use and repurposing, focussing the university within the City centre rather than dispersed. The study also included a new public realm strategy.
The masterplan principles focus on: Civic University, building (re-use) and students, staff and community.
The public realm strategy defines principles covering: integration of cycle parking, landscape strategy and ecology, lighting, street furniture, wayfinding, signage and branding and Public Art.
