The Bowker Centre, Rodbaston

Animal Care and Management Building

We were appointed to lead the design development of three key projects at South Staffordshire College’s Rodbaston Campus: the Animal Care Facility, the Green Energy Centre, and the campus masterplan. Our role spanned RIBA Stages 1 to 3, delivering coordinated design packages for tender to Design & Build contractors, we were selected by both contractors to develop the detailed design and construction drawings, RIBA 4-5 including monitoring on-site, so worked throughout the project via separate appointments (no novation).

For the Animal Care Facility, our team developed a site-responsive design, balancing functionality, sustainability, and student experience. The layout was informed by stakeholder engagement with senior leadership, department heads, and end users, conducted through online and in-person workshops. The building’s modular SIP panel construction was selected for energy efficiency and rapid on-site assembly, reducing disruption to campus operations.
